Rehab In The Home:
Rehabilitation programs have historically been undertaken in a rehabilitation centre following partial or total hip or knee joint replacement surgery.
Recent research suggests that home-based rehabilitation programs have better outcomes than conventional hospital-based rehabilitation.
The benefits of in-home physiotherapy include:
- added comfort
- accelerated progress due to home comforts
- highly personalized care
- convenient and time efficient
- increased safety for high-risk individuals
At Sorrento Physiotherapy we offer home based services when appropriate. If you are unable to travel, our home-based physiotherapy service may be appropriate for you. Our physiotherapists can see patients at their own residential home, retirement village, aged care facility.
Who is eligible?
If you are interested in participating in rehab in the home with us, please contact your health fund to see if you’re eligible for the program.
We are contracted by a number of health funds to provide post operative rehabilitation services in the home.
How do I participate?
If you are about to undergo a partial or total hip or knee replacement and are interested in participating in rehab at home, speak with your doctor/surgeon about your suitability for the program and whether they can provide you with a referral prior to discharge from hospital.
How does it work?
Once we have received a referral and you have been discharged from hospital, we will contact you to arrange your first appointment. One of our qualified physiotherapists will then visit you in the comfort of your own home. They will then guide you every step of the way through your recovery over a number of sessions.
*This service is not limited to hip and knee replacement surgeries. Commonly treated conditions also include reconstructive surgery, spinal surgery, recovery from fractures as well as falls and balance programs.
